Missing Hype
12 02 2004Inviblemadevisible (check out their sublime stencils) in London pointed me to the opening of Hype Gallery last Saturday in London.
Located down Brick Lane, this is great concept. A different way to consider art. Contrary to the people in most galleries, spending their time being posh (I always confuse them to be part of the featured items for sale), the staff of Hype Gallery works flat out sorting and printing postal submissions and accepting cd’s from people walking in from the street. Its interesting watching work being printed and added to the walls while you are walking around the gallery.
What I would miss in San Jose? Exactly this.
San Jose has no expression of contemporary art whatsoever. Yes, it’s very ‘eco’, but… then again… I’m an urban guy… Yes, I need beaches, the sun, the ability to escape in two hours.
Mel is right… San Jose is not like Rio or Santiago.
Maybe it just means the opportunity is there in San Jose to start new art colectives. Or am I naive? Some people convinced me with their vision and skills already…
