SABAM asks Belgian ISPS to close P2P
29 06 2004Sabam drags Tiscali before a Belgian judge.
Their argument: “Our technical advisors informed us that it is possible to prevent users from using P2P networks. We urge Tiscali to do so.”.
Why Tiscali? Coincidence, SABAM claims, “we had to start somewhere”.
Decission from the judge in 2 to 3 months from here.
Curious if the judges opinion is that I can’t use Groove for my groupware, Flickr for my online portfolio, Skype for calling,… all are based on P2P.
Still very strange why Sabam picked Tiscali. Could it be a setup for preventing Belgian Internet users to further use Skype now that Skype will expand it’s services with PC to phone and thus eating hard on Belgacom’s margins, since Belgium has one of the highest penetrations of bandwidth in the world.
Urges for some further digging.
Anyway, I just received some CDs and will happily copy them on a party next Friday where we all bring our 250 gig Firewire discs; no one will be able to stop the biggest P2P network ever: walknet. Also check Ajune, he posts weekly gigs.
Meanwhile I’ll keep buying sons from Bleep; which I will not copy. Dig it Sony & EMI; respect, Warp. Makes me remind I should delete the temp /music folder on this site… before Sabam spots me.
